What the f*** is this?

I am setting up this space because I felt helpless. Helpless in the pursuit of my art, of founding a way to be a writer and be of service at the same time. I’ve always just reposted stories, and occasionally donated when I felt moved by a cause (vetted organizations only, of course!). I helped out in my community throughout school, but after graduating into the pandemic, I felt more disconnected than ever. None of it felt like enough. This page is a way for me to take on art’s most notoriously difficult task: staying consistent, but also putting action behind the values in my writing.

I will be posting twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays!

Why Substack? Because Instagram stuffs ads down your throat. Squarespace is washed out. Literary Magazines are gatekept and take too long to respond. Tumblr is scary. Artists need dopamine. Like Tinkerbell, the light starts to fade once people stop believing in us. With this page, the only person responsible for putting my writing into the world is myself. The only person responsible for making a tangible difference is myself…and of course YOU— who give the words meaning.

Yesterday, I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise, so I am changing myself.

So hello! Welcome to Sahib’s Substack aka Four-Fours Poetry. While this has and always will be a poetry-first page (because the world has lost the word), this page will be home to any and all writing. Here you will find spoken word poems about Bollywood, plays that take place on a clock, and an essay about LSD written while on LSD. I am also learning how to write screenplays, so maybe someday you will find my movies here as well.

20% of your subscription from now until I can’t lift a pen anymore will go towards making a tangible difference. Currently, it will all go to Anera, a charity providing relief to those affected by unrest in the Middle East (primarily Palestinian and Syrian refugees, but also others in Jordan and Lebanon). Sometimes it’ll just be my thoughts, and other times it’ll be my feelings. Feel free to laugh. Feel free to vehemently disagree. This is an open forum. Just come sit with me. We have a good view.
